BP refinery, Dow plant lose power in Texas City
April 26, 2011
Alerts have been issued in Texas City after power failures at a BP refinery and a Dow Chemical plant there.
BP and Dow lost power to their facilities, which are next door to each other, around 10:55 p.m. Monday. Both plants shut down all their units when they were unable to restore power.
Emergency management officials issued a shelter-in-place order to residents but the order was lifted around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
BP spokesman Michael Marr told The Galveston County Daily News that a small fire broke out at the refinery shortly after the power went out but crews were able to put it out. Marr says there were no injuries at the refinery.
Officials could not immediately confirm what caused the outage.
